This article I found caught my eye because it talks about using the game "I Spy" along with audio input of spoken words, and the result the scientist at Indiana University are finding is that children are able to identify pictures quicker that they are able to identify words. The reasoning the scientist say is that a different function of the brain is being brought into play.
This research provides data for the investigation of children with ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) and delayed speech.

I found this article about a new language discovery, the difference here according to the article is although there are new languages that are found from time to time, this language light-Walpiri has been studied since about 2002 by a linguist from the University of Michigan.
I found it interesting that the language was developer by the children of a village of aborigines located in a remote part of northern Australia.
This language was classified as new because it is actually a mixture of Walpiri,Kriol(mixed indigenous language) and English, but was void of certain characteristics that qualify it as a new language.
This article and video is from July 2013

I found body language in the news, and I am remembering a movie I saw in my Communications class about body language and how people have certain " tells" or mannerisms that show deception, anger, nervousness.
In this case the subject is Vladimir Putin, with the military operation and political posturing that Putin has injected into the Ukraine his body language according to this article suggests that he is nervous and aggressive.
Along with the body language in the Q&A with reporters, it should be taken into account with the recent actions taken, that Putin has positioned himself for a last resort option.

I ran across this article today and it like all the other blog articles I put up have some connection to my life. The one is about is call Brain Imaging Shows the Language of Music" and the reason I'm writing this on is like a lot of other people I like music. I like music for the way it makes me feel emotionally and physically, music can really bring out a number of different feelings, at this stage I like the nostalgic feelings I get from older music I listen to.
Anyway back to the article, according a study done at John Hopkins University in Maryland a prestigious medical school, the study took two jazz musicians and had them play a couple of pieces from memory then they were asked to do some improvisational jazz.
Bothe musicians were connected to devices that tracked brain activity, the surprising result was when the musicians engaged in the back and forth improvisational exercises the parts of the brain showing a lot of activity were those that are normally used for syntax and language.
I found this super interesting since I have always want to become a musician but missed the boat on that one, so I did the next best thing I introduced my son to a music and music instruction at an early age and he stuck with it.
It was tough in the beginning but as everyone knows time fly's and now he cant get enough music and he's always on his guitars.
Here's the article:

Here's is some stuff my son is putting together, it's an instrumental and he's on guitar.

This blog is on the language
of love and with Valentine’s Day just passing I thought it would be fitting to
convey a few words of the language of love, and since I am not nearly as
educated or experienced on this subject as I wish I was, I would like to paste
onto this blog a few things I considered inspiring.
The following are excerpts from the Pope
Frances via a CNN article:
Pope Francis on Friday gave his advice on how to have a
happy marriage before thousands of young engaged couples.
The unprecedented event, held under
brilliant winter sunshine in a packed St. Peter's Square in Vatican City, may
reflect Francis' desire to be closer to ordinary people's lives.
Three couples were able to put their own
questions directly to the Pontiff before being blessed.
The first young couple to speak explained
how they had decided to get married. "We didn't want to give in to the
easy way of not committing," the man said.
The couple asked the Pontiff to give them
his advice on how to make a lasting marriage.
Francis,
himself committed to lifelong celibacy as a Catholic priest, said that many
people are afraid these days to make "definite decisions" and
long-lasting choices -- but that it can be done.
"Today, everything is changing rapidly and nothing lasts for long.
This sort of mentality leads so many who are getting ready for marriage to say
they will be together for as long as love lasts," which can lead to
divorce, he said.
Love has to be built together, he said,
not alone. "To build such a thing means to help your love
grow,"
he said.
"Dear engaged people, you are getting
ready to grow together, to build a home, to live together for good. Do not just base it on those feelings that
come and go, but on the rock of true love that comes from God," he said.
Francis also took to Twitter to encourage
those who are in love to take the plunge and tie the knot.
"Dear young people don't be afraid to
marry. A faithful and fruitful marriage will bring you happiness,"
A second couple in St. Peter's Square told
Francis of how their love and commitment had changed their lives, before the
woman asked for the Pope's advice on how to live together day to day.
"Living together is an art. It's a
patient art, it's a beautiful art, it's fascinating," Francis replied. He spoke of the need to communicate with
respect and attention, "to request politely so that you enter with
courtesy into the life of the other."
That isn't easy, he said. Each half of the
couple must learn to say thank you, and to apologize for his or her mistakes.
"We all know there isn't a perfect
family, neither a perfect husband nor a perfect wife. Of course,
we
are not talking about the perfect mother-in-law," he joked.
"Do not end any day without asking
each other for forgiveness, having peace back in your house and your
family," he said. "Never end a single day without being at peace with
each other. This is the secret in order to preserve love."
The third couple's question dealt with how
to celebrate their marriage.
Francis
said the key thing was not to have a wild party, though the celebration is
important, but to feel the presence of Jesus. The dress, flowers and food are
important, but only if the couple are
there
in a true spirit of love, he said.
For all it’s worth I believe receiving
this type of language of love/advice from anyone would be language worth
listening to.
I am not preaching in this blog I am
expressing my own beliefs and opinions.

The Language of comedy is a term I
recently heard, although I did very little research on the term what I did
find was that the type of language used in comedy and other forums of entertainment is one technique used to illicit a reaction and
not just necessarily laughter.
I have been a fan of comedy for a very
long time; I've had the opportunity to listen to a wide range of comedians with
varying styles and delivery methods via radio, albums, CD’s and the Internet,
not to mention a few live shows. There are comedians who are
very dead pan in their delivery, to those who have a very intense and
aggressive delivery.
A couple of examples that come to mind are
Stephen Wright who’s deadpan humor is so monotone and without any emotion in its
delivery makes this comedy very funny to
some people. The other extreme that
comes to mind is Sam Kinison who was a scramming, emotional and intense comic
who was very popular with a lot of comedy fans.
There are comedy teams like Stiller & Meara,
Abbot & Costello, and Cheech &Chong.
There are also a number of very successful individuals who have started
out as comedians and have moved on to of parts of the entertainment
industry.
Some examples of this are Woody Allen, Jim
Carrey, Steve Martin, Roseann Barr, just to name a few.
There are so many comics out there now,
mainly because of our technology and the speed it can be delivered with, it’s just
booming. So go out there and find
someone who can make you laugh using their language of comedy.

I have had a fascination with translation for a long time; I have helped myself and other people since I was a kid in small and relatively unexciting day to day type living experiences where a second language came in handy.
It more or less started when I first saw an episode of "I Love Lucy”, the one where Lucy and Ricky are vacationing in Paris and Lucy is arrested for trying to pass a counterfeit French franc that she had received from a man on the street who was exchanging American currency.
This episode for me is a classic “I Love Lucy” show and I hold it up there with the “Chocolate Factory” and “Vitameatavegamin Girl” although the two latter episodes are always featured in stories about Lucille Ball or Desi Arnaz, but I don’t recall ever seeing the Translation episode among them. It is still my favorite one.
I am taking this ENG-213 as part of the language certificate course of study along with majoring in education in order that somewhere along the line I can be looked upon as a resource in Spanish based on my certificate credentials and not be excluded based on my surname or appearance.
This clip is only a minute or two and is subtitled in Spanish, but it is the only copy with good video and audio quality I could find.

This blog
post is on the subject I casually heard about around 2 or 3 weeks ago while
listening to morning radio so I decided to do a little research on it since it
involves language.
FAS (Foreign
Accent Syndrome) the first time I ever heard of this condition was years ago
somewhere TV or radio I don’t even remember, and when I heard it the first
thought I had was this has to be a scammer.
I thought
this Foreign Accent Syndrome is just another hoax some goofball wacko who’s
looking for public notoriety or possibly some sort of scam, needless to say I
didn’t believe a word of it.
In my research I did what any good GCC
student would do I used my resources and used GOOGLE to pull up Wikipedia and
to search for any videos and web sites that could provide me with information pertaining
to FAS. Pressed enter and magic
happened.
I came
across a 60 Minutes TV episode when searching for videos which I thought was
pretty good in showing several individuals who have FAS and giving a very good description
and explaining what is really happening.
All humor
aside I also found a great site at the University of Texas in Dallas; this site
has several resources, research, explanations, and auditory examples of other
sufferers of FAS.
Spoiler
alert! It’s only a foreign accent to
the listener.
Here is the link for the 13 minute long 60 Minutes TV presentation.

Obamacare’s Spanish-language Web site is ‘written in
Spanglish’
·
By Ezra Klein
· January 13 at 9:09 am
I picked this article because of the Obama care
connection, and because it had to do with the Obama care website Spanish
language option.
I found the article interesting because it reported
that the Obama care website was using Spanglish in its Spanish language portion
of the website.
I do agree with the article when it stated that the
word “prima” should not be used to translate the word premium because users of
the website would confuse the word prima with its definition of female cousin.
I would like to learn a little more about how the
creators of the website are dealing with any complaints and how many other
languages the site supports and how good the translation is.
The major impact would certainly be in the U.S. , but I can certainly see if the cost of
healthcare get too expensive that it would have a ripple effect on economies in
other parts of the world that being the U.S. having less purchasing power of
goods from other countries.
