Obamacare’s Spanish-language Web site is ‘written in
Spanglish’

I picked this article because of the Obama care
connection, and because it had to do with the Obama care website Spanish
language option.
I found the article interesting because it reported
that the Obama care website was using Spanglish in its Spanish language portion
of the website.
I do agree with the article when it stated that the
word “prima” should not be used to translate the word premium because users of
the website would confuse the word prima with its definition of female cousin.
I would like to learn a little more about how the
creators of the website are dealing with any complaints and how many other
languages the site supports and how good the translation is.
The major impact would certainly be in the U.S. , but I can certainly see if the cost of
healthcare get too expensive that it would have a ripple effect on economies in
other parts of the world that being the U.S. having less purchasing power of
goods from other countries.

ReplyDeleteI was actually going to write about this one as well. Luckily I didn't! I find it really astonishing that they would use Spanglish for the SPANISH website of Obamacare. It's bad enough that we are being forced to get healthcare but to have poor translations to those who need it is offensive.
Wow, this article baffled me. I have never been on the Obamacare website, but from what I've heard from the press has been all but good news. You would think that if the success of Obamacare relied heavily on the Hispanic community, that they would put more effort into making sure the Spanish page was correctly translated. "Prima" for premium? Seriously? I learned that in Spanish 1 in high school!
